Philip Kaplan ’97
Entrepreneur Philip Kaplan ’97 is currently the founder and CEO of startup incubator ADHD Labs. He was previously the founder and CEO of AdBrite, an internet advertising company that grew from zero to $30 million in annual revenue in its first three years. He also co-founded Blippy, a venture-backed social shopping company, and TinyLetter, an e-mail service provider that was acquired by MailChimp in 2011.
Kaplan is working on two music-related ventures. Fandalism is a social network for musicians to share their work and interact with other artists, and his newest venture, DistroKid, is a service that allows musicians to easily publish their tracks to online marketplaces like the iTunes store, Spotify, Google Play and Amazon.
In 2010, Kaplan was entrepreneur-in-residence at the top venture capital firm Charles River Ventures. He founded and sold several other businesses, including the popular blog F-ckedcompany.com and PK Interactive, a software company that developed web-based applications for Fortune 500 clients. In addition, he is the bestselling author of F’d Companies: Spectacular Dot-com Flameouts, and an active angel investor who advises several companies.
Kaplan graduated from Syracuse University’s School of Information Studies (iSchool) with a degree in information management and technology and has been on the school’s Board of Advisors since October 2006. He will deliver the iSchool's 2014 convocation address in May.
